FAMILY SUPPORT FOR DEAF TEENS:
FAMILY SUPPORT FOR DEAF TEENS: |
there are 45,000 children in the UK and
I'm one of them 90% of deaf children are
born into families who have no
experience of deafness I am one of them
of 85 percent of deaf children
who attends mainstream school I'm
Bethany and I'm 15 years old
my name is Ellen and I live in
oxygen.
my name is Lucy and I'm 13 and I
live in Dorchester in Dorset
I have a found deafness in both ears I
have a cochlear implant in my left ear
and I without my cochlear implant I
can't hear a single thing even a penny

cop and airplane taking off and I prefer
the Jazz in both ears and I wear a
cochlear implant on the right side and
without him I would be lost
I'm more greatly deaf so I only wear two
HEARING:
hearing the port I get in school are that I have
88 in my class and she's a
note-taker as well and I have a hearing
support teacher that comes in once every
two to three weeks and also have a tick
to the death and new knit as well in the
school I go to mainstream I have a
Rayleigh wave which is a microphone that
goes and to teachers net that the
microphone makes it louder for me not
others and it goes straight to my

hearing aid also I have a red Wade
sample system I had it done 18 months
ago and it's really beautiful I don't
know how I survived work and I have
speech in therapy as well I do have here
support service and you did come in
quite a lot but then when he got into
secondary school he didn't come in as
often
MONEY:
if they cut the money or they're here in
support teachers I would feel a bit
isolated because I wouldn't know where
to who to turn to I wouldn't have that
extra guidance from the person that
actually knows what I'm about and what
my equipment is I've been really really
upset thing because without the support
that I've had previously that I've kind
of got now it wouldn't be the same you
wouldn't have that little bit of

security with you you know it wouldn't
be there to help you in your lessons I
would be really upset and angry I would
have to say it because I'm I'm I need
the support I have right now and it's a
white level and if I had anything less I
probably would fail
DISADVANTAGES:
we're definitely disadvantaged with in
our learning so with that extras of what
they helped us understand that we can
actually come on top
I have a statement of special education
needs but not all deaf children happen
and I do think all deaf children need
have one because then that means they
can have a better quality of life and
FAMILY SUPPORT FOR DEAF TEENS:
they can get the qualifications I need
British sign language and should be
something that's done within schools as
well perhaps as a GCSE or as a club or
something because everyone should have
those basics of how to communicate with
DEAF CHILD:
a deaf child I have a really good
hearing support teachers and they're
really really supportive but after
speaking to other people on the Youth
Advisory Board for nd CS not everyone
gets the same support as me so I think
everyone should be offered the same
support and very high standards because
it definitely makes a difference to my
learning
